I'm very excited to announce that I am currently having a solo exhibition at Ben Navaee Gallery in Toronto, Ontario. The show, entitled Places We Could Go, is largely inspired from my travels. Posted below is the exhibition statement, and some installation photos.
"'Places We Could Go' explores the link between reality and that imagined by its conceiver. After living in Florence, Italy for a year, I was charmed by the monuments of past lives. I documented everything, from the grand cathedrals to simple street corners. As such, I have been impacted by my surroundings and am drawn to both Renaissance and Contemporary architecture. Specifically, this body of work focuses on the juxtaposition of reality and memory, and how the places we inhabit influence our experiences. Rather than representing an entirely realistic memory, an illusion is created in my work to awaken a more playful, imaginative scene through the use of bright colours and brushstrokes. I aim to convey the illusion of space through a varied use of line, geometric shapes and organic forms."
The show runs from August 7-13th, 2014.
